Another transfer window, another month where Real Madrid are linked with every world-class player under the sun. From Kylian Mbappé to Sadio Mané, Los Blancos have already been tipped to sign several (unrealistic) players.

We know those players aren’t joining Madrid this January. However, as they compete on multiple fronts, they could do with some good recruitment. With a Champions League tie against Manchester City also to come, Zinedine Zidane needs to make sure his squad is strong enough in what is set to be an enthralling encounter.

So let’s take a look at some players Real Madrid should be looking to sign this January, as we head into the second half of the season.

Zinedine Zidane
Christian Eriksen (Midfielder)
It’s pretty obvious that Zidane is targeting a creative midfielder as they attempted to sign Paul Pogba last summer. However, with the Frenchman suffering with injury problems and now unlikely to move until the summer, it may be time for Madrid to focus their attention on other options. Tottenham’s contract rebel Christian Eriksen is one of them.

Isco has fallen down the pecking order at Real Madrid, and Eriksen fits the mould of diminutive playmaker who can turn a game on its head with a bit of quality. It is evident that he wants out of Spurs too, as his performances have severely dipped since the start of 2019.

With just six months left of his contract, Daniel Levy would undoubtedly be keen on selling the Dane should an offer from abroad come in.

Donny Van De Beek (Midfielder)
Another realistic option for the number ten role, Van de Beek would be a top signing for Madrid. The Dutchman was mesmeric in Ajax’s Champions League run last season, but after an early exit from this season’s competition, he would not say no to a move to one of Europe’s biggest clubs.

Madrid have had a long-standing interest in the player, but have seemingly prioritised the signing of Pogba over him. But similarly to Eriksen, Zidane should now target Van de Beek this January instead of the Frenchman. At 22-year-old, he would cost a lot more than Eriksen, but perhaps he would offer a lot more to the club in the long-term.

Fabián Ruiz Peña (Midfielder)
The classy midfielder is hugely rated in Spain, as Ruiz is seen as one of the players to carry the Spanish national team forward for a number of years. As a result, Madrid have been linked heavily with the player, and it is a signing that would be brilliant for the club.

Ruiz has struggled at times this season, but that is down to the fact that he has been played out of position. The Spaniard needs to work his magic close to goal, but he has been forced into a more defensive role this campaign. If Madrid are able to pick him up this January, he would add so much class and quality to the Los Blancos midfield, and may even be the best option out of the three mentioned so far to take up the mantle of creative midfielder.

Due to the fact that he can also play as a central midfielder, he could be the long-term replacement for Toni Kroos too, with Martin Ødegaard slotting into the number ten role when he returns from his loan spell. It’s a signing that makes so much sense.

Timo Werner (Striker)
Real Madrid aren’t in desperate need of a striker with the brilliant form of Karim Benzema this season. However, with Luka Jovic failing to deliver since signing in the summer, Madrid could be looking at another striker to provide competition to the Frenchman and potentially replace him long-term. Timo Werner would be a fantastic option for Zidane.

RB Leipzig chief Oliver Mintzlaff revealed that he can’t stop Werner from leaving if a top club comes in for him, and there’s no denying that a top club would be interested in the prolific German goalscorer. The 23-year-old has bagged 18 goals in 17 games in the Bundesliga this season, and Madrid should test the German side’s resolve this January with a big offer.

Moussa Dembele (Striker)
Moussa Dembélé would also be another phenomenal striking option for Real Madrid. The 23-year-old is one of the most talented and highly-rated strikers around, and again, he would be a long-term replacement for Benzema.

With 10 goals in 18 appearances for a team labouring in 12th in Ligue 1, Dembélé continues to impress, and Madrid would be foolish to not be interested in the Frenchman.
