There seem to be lots of controversies generated within the Nnewi community on the award conferred by the ‘Controversial’ Traditional Ruler of Amichi in Nnewi South Local Government, His Royal Highness, Igwe Dr. Ofobuike Ezeoke to Senator Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah.

Igwe Ezeoke had on Thursday, January 2nd, 2020, conferred an award of Ikemba Igbo Amichi to the Distinguished Senator in recognition of his efforts towards recovery of the Igbo economy and promotion of Igbo norms and culture.

In a Press Statement by the Media Aide of the Senator released to the public, the Senator thanked the Amichi Royal Cabinet and the community for recognizing his efforts towards protection and sustainance of the Igbo name and culture.

The release further stated that the conferment took place during the Obi Amichi 6th Ofala Festival and witnessed the presence of sons and daughters of Amichi town, friends and associates of Ochi clan.

However, the Chieftaincy Award given to Senator Ubah seems to be generating lots of controversies within the Nnewi Community as many people seem not to be in support of the Ikemba Igbo title coffered on the Senator.

The recent group picture involving members of Nnewi Royal Family used by Sen. Dr. Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah’s media team to broadcast the title given to him by Obi Amichi has been described by the family as political blackmail.

Prince Chinedu Orizu; Ugwunnaya Nnewi, expressed serious shock over the number of calls he is receiving as a result of his picture going viral in an occasion he attended independently in the company of his brothers.

Prince Chinedu Orizu instructed me to inform the general public that Obi Amichi is his “Nnaochie” ( maternal uncle) and for the past six years, he has been attending his ofala as an annual ritual. He further emphasized that he is not in the know that such title was about to be conferred on Sen. Dr. Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah and he was in the occasion for over six hours before the arrival of the Senator.

Prince Orizu made it clear that the Senator only came to identify with them upon realising he was present with his other siblings in the occasion.

He maintains that the validity of the title is not his issue as the Igwe is his Nnaochie, but the impression that the Royal Family was part of his entourage to this function is very embarrassing.

Reacting further, a former aide to Senator Ifeanyi Ubah and CEO of MING TV, Barrister Chinedu Adili Ubah popularly known as TINO said There is nothing to this show of shame and certainly nothing akin to the heritage and prestige of our culture, other than the sinful pride of a man who is bent on stepping on anything, no matter how revered, to attain his political agenda which in the long-run will remain, for him, a mirage.

I have said it earlier that the Afa Igbo Efuna movement is a sham meant to sway our people into supporting a man with a selfish agenda.

Time will vindicate every of my revelations and expositions about this devious agenda of Dr. Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah.

Barr. chinedu Leonard Adiluba further queries why the Senator would dress in Rivers state attire for a title in Igbo land? Alumelu; Where is his red cap demonstrating Igbo culture or hand fan (acupe )?; if not desperation why will a chieftaincy title come with a plaque?
