Five Musicians That Went Missing After One Hit

One hit single at some point in a musician’s life is a harbinger of hope; it is every musician’s dream to release a song that would cause a national stir, rack up a solid fanbase, win awards and get endorsements.

But many of these musicians have disappeared after one hit which made fans to question if the talent was there in the first place or was it just pure luck.

Staying in the entertainment industry requires making hits after hits, though it is expected at some point that the new kids on the block would take over. These five musicians vanished in the minds of their fans so fast that their latest songs failed to get past the studio corridors. Here are five musicians that went missing after one hit

1. Mish

Mish is among musicians who broke into the entertainment industry with a bang and his hit single “Akwa Ibom Ayaya enjoyed massive airplay. It was like a self-announcement and many believed that the singer had what it takes to put Akwaibom on the map when it comes to entertainment. However, after that one hit single, Mish went missing. He may be out of the country or changed career, “Akwaibom Ayaya” was just a flash in the pan. He is one of many musicians who left the industry quietly.

2. Korede Bello

Remember that Mavin’s fine boy? We are talking about the “Doro Superstar”? When Korede Bello released “Godwin”, it was a national anthem. The singer jumped from place to place performing on different platforms including some churches. Many believed that Wizkid would finally have some competition, but sadly Korede Bello has failed to release another hit song that would match up to his first single.

No doubt the singer is talented, but all that comparisons between him and former record label mate Reekado Banks ended a long time ago because he has failed to live up to the expectations of his fans.

Although an effort has been made to get him back on track by getting him to feature with Tiwa Savage and some other stars, Korede Bello has not released another hit song after “Godwin”.

3. Kelly Handsome

What happened to Kelly Handsome? No one has a clue. The singer released one album with two or three songs. There was a time his fans compared him to the legendary 2face. (The sins Nigerians commit). Lately, the singer has struggled to release another song that will resonate in the hearts of his fans. Kelly Handsome is still handsome but he is finding it difficult to make music again.

4. Durrela

There’s a picture circulating around social media where Durrela was soaking garri –a perceived sign of being broke in Nigeria by some people. But let me save you the torture of writing 100 words on a mere picture. The question is where is Durrela?

The self-acclaimed King of the “Zanger” went from making good songs to disappearing totally. He blamed his former record label for his extinction and said he is with a new record label now; cooking up something. It’s been more than 4 years he said this, and Durrela is still in the kitchen studio cooking up something.

“I am on a new record label now – and I must confess that the label has really impacted so much in my life as an artiste. Everything has changed for me, I do not live in the zanga anymore,I live in Lekki. I have an album still at work. My fans will see me in another form”.

5. W4

If you search where is W4 on google, you will either get a search result of a Tecno phone (W4) or a County in London, this further shows how much the singer has been missing after his one-hit-wonder “Kontrol”. Has W4 lost his “Kontrol”? Maybe. Since 2012 the singer has failed to release a song that would cause a stir or even a ripple. He has also blamed his former record label just like Durella.

“The career is still intact. Actually, after Kontrol my other single Foreign Dance came under a record label called Crystal Posh but along the line they ventured into other forms of businesses which derailed them from the entertainment industry”.

But while he is no longer entertaining us, we still have Tecno W4, we cannot lose at both ends.

BONUS: Lynxx

After singing Fine Ladies with Wizkid,  Lynxx went missing. Though we have some idea where he may be found. The former singer gave his life to Christ and turned his back on secular songs. The news of Lynzz becoming a born again did not go down well with his fans but he has this to say. “I just became more spiritual, I just decided to focus on the more important things in life over the frivolous and fleeting things, I’m in a space where if it doesn’t matter to me, it doesn’t matter, because at the end of the day we’re all getting older, and life is moving for everybody. Whether I’m a musician or not, real life is happening”.

Lynxx is now a born again but he doesn’t have the intention of releasing a gospel song.
