Americans are dragging power couple, Beyonce and Jay Z for remaining seated while Demi Lavato did the rendition of the National Anthem at the Super Bowl yesterday.

Even though Beyonce sang and swayed while the anthem was going on, her sitting down alongside her husband and daughter, Blue Ivy provoked many people who tagged them proud, disrespectful and ungrateful.

Jay-Z may have signed on to be a strategic advisor for the NFL and even helped produced the Super Bowl LIV halftime show. But the rap mogul is still not opposed to making a subtle political statement.

TMZ has posted a video of Jay-Z, wife Beyonce and daughter Blue Ivy sitting during Demi Lovato’s performance of the national anthem at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami on Sunday. The Carter family was in attendance to watch the Kansas City Chiefs take on the San Francisco 49ers.

Fans on social media had mixed reactions. What’s most interesting is that Jay-Z received backlash last year after his company Roc Nation signed its partnership with the NFL. The move was seen as a knock against Colin Kaepernick, who sparked controversy when he kneeled during games to protest police brutality against African Americans.

Cleary, Jay-Z still supports what Kaepernick kneeled for. Part of Jay-Z’s role with the NFL is to help the league with social justice efforts, something he talked about in a recent New York Times interview.
