How To Separate Stones From Nigerian Rice Without Picking

The Nigerian government recently banned rice importation and since then, everyone has been forced to eat Nigerian rice.

While some enjoy the rice, a great number of people complain about the presence of stones in the rice which doesn’t help them to enjoy it and some people go as far as paying extra money to purchase foreign rice or go the extra mile to smuggle them into the country.

Foreign rice is not really good for our health and some people allege that it is the cause of recent outbreak of infertility and high blood pressure in the country and it is laden with chemicals and preservatives which can even cause cancer.

In the light of the above, it is therefore imperative for us to learn how to cook our own local rice so that we can eat it without stones as it proves to be more nutritious than it’s foreign counterpart and also how to do so without wasting time.

The following are some of the steps to take:

1. Pour your desired quantity of rice to be cooked into a bowl, pour water into it and stir lightly. At this point, all the chaff in it will float on the water. Gently pour the water away.

2. Repeat the above procedure untill there is no more chaff. This should take about just 30 seconds

3. Pour the rice into your cooking pot, add a little water and parboil.

4. Remove the half cooked rice from fire and drain the water.

5. Pour the rice into a big bowl, add some water to the rice and stir.

6. Now, start shaking the bowl lightly while gently removing a handful of rice from the surface, and pouring it into your cooking pot, one handful at a time.

7. Repeat the process until the rice remains small and scanty in the bowl.

8 At this point, you will notice that all the stones have settled at the bottom.

This means that you have successfully separated all the rive from the stones and you can now throw the stones away.
This procedure does not take up to 5 minutes and you can now proceed with your cooking.
