NPFL: Lobi Stars Reclaim Top Spot

Lobi Stars of Makurdi stormed back to the top of the ongoing Nigeria Professional Football League yesterday with 35 points after a convincing 2-1 home win over Wikki Tourists just as Mountain of Fire and Miracles, MFM, Lagos scorched Pillars 3-1 at the Agege township stadium in Lagos.

On Saturday, Plateau United played out a 0-0 with Dakkada FC in Uyo to earn 33 points which was not enough to deny Lobi Stars the NPFL top spot after yesterday’s win.

Lobi Stars who suffered a 1-0 loss at Jigawa Stars in week 18 to relinquish the top position to Plateau United ensured they picked the maximum points against Wikki as Utibe Arit and Austin Oguneye scored a goal each in the 10th and 20th minute.

Wikki Tourists who ended the match with 10 men got their consolatory goal in the added minute of second half through Nasir Jibirn.

In Lagos, Kano Pillars unbeaten run beginning from week 6 came to an end as they were beaten 3-1 despite drawing the first blood in the 34th minute through Auwalu Ali.

Pillars held onto their lead but Adewole Adeniji put MFM level in the 52nd minute before a brace by Clement Ogwu in the 65th and 81st minute denied Pillars a second away victory in the ongoing season.

At the Muhammdu Dikko stadium, Joseph Atule scored his second goal of the season when he struck on the stroke of half time to give Katsina United the lead against Warri Wolves.

Former Kano Pillars striker, Gambo Muhammad doubled Katsina United’s lead in the 55th minute before Charles Atshimene reduced the tally for his side from the spot in the 71st minute.

In the ‘Oriental derby’, Enyimba FC beat neighbours Abia Warriors 2-1. Austin Oladapo fired in a free-kick in added minutes of the first half to give the ‘Peoples elephants’ the lead but Otop Okon drew his side level in the 58th minute before Stanley Dimgba restored the lead in 76th minute to ensure Enyimba recorded back to back victories.

Elsewhere FC IfeanyiUbah fell 0-2 at Sunshine Stars of Akure, Jigawa Golden Stars pipped Nasarawa United 1-0, strugglers Adamawa United edged Heartland 1-0 just as Konan N’Guan scored from the spot in the 67th minute to hand Rivers 1-0 win over Kwara United in Port-Harcourt.

The fixture between Akwa United and Enugu Rangers ended 0-0 at the Godswill Akpabio international stadium in Uyo.
