One of the most talented fast-rising Nigerian indigenous rapper, singer, songwriter, recording artiste and stage performer indigenous rapper currently in Nigeria, Nnenna Okechukwu Emmanuel popularly known by his stage name Slowdog, is a  who raps mostly in the Igbo indigenous language.

He was born on 27th November, 1978 in Awkuzu, Anambra State in the south-eastern part of Nigeria. He hails from the same place in Oyi, to be precise.. His style of music is more of comedy rap.

Slowdog was born into a family of eight with three boys and three girls. He spent the earlier part of his life in Jos, Plateau State in the northern part of Nigeria with his family before settling in Enugu State, Nigeria in 1981 where he grew up and completed his primary and secondary school education. With that, he obtained his First School Leaving and West African Senior School Certificates.

Next, Slowdog proceeded to Institute of Management and Technology (IMT) in Enugu, Nigeria and graduated with a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Marketing in 2003.

His ambition for music grew in 1994 at the age of 16. He began rapping in Igbo while still in secondary school.

In 2002, he started his music career professionally and formed a group called “Dodge & Slowdog (DSD)” with their first debut album titled “Xposed Piracy”.

In March 2017, Slowdog released the remix of his hit single – “Testimony”, which featured Phyno and TJ.

Presently, he is rated as one of the most talented Igbo indigenous rappers Nigeria has ever produced.

Slowdog has collaborated with top music legends in Nigeria such as Nigga Raw, Phyno, Flavour, Ibliss, MC Loph, Olamide, Timaya, Bracket, P-Square, Selebobo, Zero, Mode 9, Hype MC and a host of others.

His hit single “Who get that tin” which featured Dekumzy and was released in 2006 made him very popular in the south eastern part of Nigeria.

Like an inevitable ritual, at every year-end and festive seasons, Slowdog performs primarily in the South-Eastern part of Nigeria. In December 2014, Slowdog, alongside Patoranking and Ruffcoin headlined the Mbba-Ike Mega Concert held in Owerri, the capital of Imo State in the south-eastern part of Nigeria. An annual event hosted by the then deputy governor of the state.

In 2015, Slowdog headlined the Ogbunike Cave Carnival held in Anambra State. On the 8th of January 2017, Slowdog alongside with Mr. Raw Nwanne and John Okafor popularly known as Mr. Ibu headlined the 2017 edition of the Ibari Ogwa Concert held in Owerri, Imo State.


Slowdog, in the course of his music career, has been nominated for several awards which include Best Indigenous Rapper (Igbo) at the Nigerian Entertainment Awards, Next Rated at the Headies Awards, Most Gifted Hip Hop Rapper at the African Music Video Awards and Most Promising Act to Watch at the City People Entertainment Awards.

Slowdog is currently one of the richest and most influential artiste in Nigeria with an estimated net worth of $700,000.
