Mathematics is considered very tough or difficult by most students which is why many people shy away from it. The fact that it is a compulsory subject is why most people still offer it at the secondary school level and many will do anything they can to avoid having anything to do with it.
March 14 is a day set aside to celebrate the beauty and importance of Mathematics by UNESCO with the theme “Mathematics is Everywhere”.
Many have inherited the fear of mathematics from other people without actually taking time to sit down and decide things on their own as to whether the subject itself is hard or it’s the fear that makes it hard.

In one of Will Smith’s quotes, he said: “Fear is not real. The only place that fear can exist is in our thoughts of the future. It is a product of our imagination, causing us to fear things that do not exist at present and may never not.”
Mathematics in actual sense is the easiest subject known to man. It is a universal language that is understood by everyone. Two plus two (2+2) in Nigeria is four (4). Go to China, USA, Germany or Togo, the answer will always remain four. (2×3) was six (6)decades ago, it’s still six today and will still be six tomorrow and years to come. Can you say the same for other subjects? In fact, what you were being taught while in secondary school might have changed by the time your own children are in school.

If we are able to understand maths and arrive at logical solutions, we will be able to prepare our minds when we have real problems. We can look for the best logic, see possible solutions and relate the data we have to reach the conclusion.
Studying mathematics allows you to understand the world better; but knowing the subtlety behind how mathematics works, can open your eyes and help you see the world around you in a new way.
