The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has said it is suing the Nigerian government and the 36 state governors, over the deadly coronavirus.

In a tweet on its handle, SERAP said its action was informed by the government’s “failure to take proactive measures to improve access to clean water and adequate healthcare for individuals who face a heightened risk of ill-health” in view of the deadly pandemic.

“BREAKING: We’re suing @NigeriaGov and the 36 state governors in Nigeria over failure to take proactive measures to improve access to clean water & adequate healthcare for individuals who face a heightened risk of ill-health or even death because of COVID-19,” the tweet read.

Since the outbreak of the virus in Wuhan, China, COVID-19, as it is also called has spread to almost every country of the world, including Nigeria, which recorded its first case in an Italian last in February.

The virus has also killed thousands all over the world.

Following its devastating consequences, countries of the world have taken measures to contain the spread of the virus, including high budgetary provisions, which Nigeria is reported to have done less in the regard.
