The Anambra state government are doing every thing possible to making sure that coronavirus is avoided after five cases was recently reported in the country.

The Honourable Commissioner for Health, Anambra State, Vincent Okpala, MD, has adopted a multisector approach to track the spread of coronavirus for containment of the disease.

The Ministry is collaborating with the Ministry of Diaspora Affairs, Culture and Tourism; Ministry of Transport; Ministry of Education; Ministry of Environment and Ministry of Information to embark on a public enlightenment campaign and immediate deployment of automated transport passenger manifest and hotel guest manifest software as a multisector approach to proactively track, prevent and contain the virus that causes COVID-19.

The idea is to maximize modern technology effectiveness by retooling travel and tourism sector with modern equipment which will be used as invisible links to implement a standard statistic frame work and main tool for economic measurement of travel and tourism as recommended by the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), the Statistics Office of the European Communities (EUROSTAT) by the deployment of the System of Tourism Statistics (STS) to track travel itinerary of inbound tourist and prevent possible spread of the coronavirus in Anambra State and Nigeria at large.

The System of Tourism Statistics (STS) thus allow the Ministry of health for the harmonization and reconciliation of travel and tourism statistics from an economic (health security) perspective. This enables the generation of a credible travel and tourism statistics data that is comparable with other economic statistics to track individuals exposed to the virus to prevent further spread.

This preventive measure is in line with UNWTO and WHO joint statement for travel and tourism sectors’ response to COVID-19 to track the spread and virulence of the virus, and to provide measures to protect health and prevent further spread by tracing travel itinerary and source of persons confirmed positive by a hospital.
