Coronavirus: Lagos To Teach SS3 Students With Radio, TV

With recent waves of coronavirus cases in Nigeria, especially Lagos State, The Lagos State Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Folasade Adefisayo has disclosed that they are making arrangements for SS3 candidates preparing for the West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE) to be taught some core subjects via radio and television.

In an interview on LTV’s ‘Lagos Today,’ the commissioner said teachers would pre-record lessons in eight subjects for broadcast on radio, television and online.

The core subjects are: English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Literature-In-English, Financial Accounting, and Economics.

Folashade who advised public and private schools to comply with the closure of schools in the state added;

“You know in our classes there are lots of children and children will always play with each other.

“So it is to protect our children; we agreed that all schools should just shut down.”

The management of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile Ife, and the University of Ibadan (UI) have announced the closure of the varsities until further notice.

This comes after the Federal Government on Thursday ordered all public tertiary institutions and unity schools to shut down to forestall the spread of Covid-19 in the country.

OAU spokesman, Abiodun Olarewaju, said in a statement on Friday that students in the varsity’s hostels are expected to start leaving by Monday.

“All students of the university have been directed to proceed on a break, and those in the university’s halls of residence have been asked to vacate their hostels and go home,” the statement read.

“Accordingly, students are expected to be leaving their hostels and the campus beginning from Monday, March 23, 2020, latest by 5:00 pm.

“Parents and guardians of our students are advised to ensure that their children and wards comply fully with the order.”
