But if the affected area of the skin is only a white discoloration and does not appear to be more than skin-deep, and if the hair on the spot has not turned white, the priest will quarantine the person for seven days.

On the seventh day, the priest will make another examination. If he finds the affected area has not changed and the problem has not spread on the skin, the priest will quarantine the person for another seven more days. Lev 13:4-5

During the time of Moses the great prophet whom the Bible recorded had several discussions with God face to face, people who were down with infectious diseases like leprosy were quarantined.

Imagine Moses declaring, there is nothing like leprosy in the Lord’s Camp; the pillar of fire and pillar of cloud is with us, nobody can be infected. After saying all these, he will go ahead and disregard all medical and commonsense advice about quarantining people with infectious diseases. The history of the Israelites would have taken a different form.

This coronavirus has clearly shown that most of the religious beliefs we are practicing in Nigeria are anti-common sense, anti-science, anti-sound reasoning, and against any form of rational thinking.

When other nations were hit in the virus onslaught, many fanatics in Nigeria said it was our prayers that stopped the virus from entering into our country, many were casting and binding all the evil spirits with the sole mission of sharing Covid-19 among nations.

Many pastors and self-acclaimed prophets were declaring and prophesying that NO EVIL will come near Nigeria. However, it seems the virus neither cares about our religious beliefs nor gives a damn about the efficacy of prayers offered against it.

Now the number of infected cases is stylishly jumping up, the government in many states has banned public gatherings especially in churches, mosques, schools, clubs and other places where people congregate frequently.

The religious fanatics went haywire and accused the government of using the Covid-19 scare to clamp down on Churches. This clearly shows that these people don’t care about public safety.

In Malaysia, the gathering of about 16,000 worshippers at Sri Petaling Mosque in Kuala Lumpur triggered new Coronavirus cases. Two-third out of 679 cases in the country were linked to the mosque.

Attendees came from many countries and naively spread the virus to their various countries, for example, 50 out of 56 cases in Brunei are linked to the gathering, Singapore had 5. While worshippers were holding hands, the virus was silently transmitted among them.

At every moment of national crises, religious leaders have a very big role to play. When their actions are inimical to public safety, then our society is not safe. Some Nigerians still believe there is no Coronavirus in the country in spite of the press releases and public enlightenments by the Federal Ministry of Health and the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC). Why? Because their Pastors and Daddy in the Lord said so.

One Pastor ignorantly told his followers that Covid-19 virus will never enter Nigeria because there is corrosive anointing in Nigeria. It seems the corrosive anointing has been rendered impotent by the virus after it couldn’t prevent the outbreak of Lassa Fever, Pneumonia, Malaria and other diseases like terrorism killing Nigerians.

We want to thank all the pastors and churches that are getting it right at the important and defining moment in human history. Many Churches switched over to online services for the safety of their members in obedience to the directives of the government.

They deserve our commendation. Our survival in these trying times is not dependent only on our personal precautions, but on the precautions of the people around us. When the people around us are careless, we are not safe.

Let us not forget that Covid-19 can survive up to three days on surfaces, 72 hours on plastics and steel, can stay active several hours on stainless steel and copper, and survives 24 hours on cardboard.

Once someone touches an infected surface and uses the same hand on the face, lips, tongue, the chances of infection are very high. Wash your hand regularly, and sanitize frequently.
