World Water Day is commemorated every 22nd of March as a means of focusing attention on the importance of fresh water and advocating the sustainable management of fresh water resources.
Declaring 2020 World Water Day, with theme, ‘Water and Climate Change’ open at Cathedral Church of St. Faith, Anglican Communion, Awka, wife of Anambra State Governor, Chief Mrs Ebelechukwu Obiano advised people to maintain a good environment, save water because water is a source of life.
Mrs Obiano who was represented by the Managing Director, Transport Company of Anambra State (TRACAS ), lfy Madukasi advised the public to always wash their hands for at least 20 seconds with soap and water, noting that open defecation is a thing of the past.
Mrs Mmadukasi commended Mrs Obiano on her efforts through her NGO, CAFE, in moving the state forward.
She said Mrs Obiano had been a good WASH Ambassador.
Project Cordinator, NEWMAP in Anambra , Mr Mike Ivenso said Mrs Obiano was a good ambassador of South East; that this government has achieved a lot in erosion control in all the local governments in the state.

He added that the effort of the state is to protect the interest of Ndi Anambra and advised people to always obey rules and norms by not dumping refuse on the drainages, saying that attitudes and practices of people contribute to climate change.
” It is our duty to sensitise the people on the danger of polluted water.”
Commissioner, Ministry of Pubic Utilities , Emeka Ezenwanne ,thanked Mrs Obiano for playing a good role as good ambassador of South East.
The commissioner, who was represented by Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Pubic Utilities , Revered Dr Polycap Amanzechukwu, also thanked United Nations (UN)for their efforts and contributions.
It is worthy of commendation to note that Anambra State has partnered with these agencies-European Union, UNICEF assisted Rural Water Supply and Sanitation (RUWASSA),to provide sanitation, hygiene condition in the state.
Coliation of NGO’s, CSOs, BODAN, RUWASSA, Ministry of Public Utilities, schools,Road Safety, Civil Defense, among others took to a road match from St Faith’s Cathedral to Aroma to create awareness on the need to avoid the use of polluted water.
