Nigerians have begun dragging the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, following plans by the Federal Government to recall retired doctors and nurses as cases of the ravaging coronavirus increase in the country.

“We have advised that some states should issue a call for retired doctors and nurses to be able to be reabsorbed and come back to service for this particular period if the need arises. They can be recalled back to active duty. They are in the reserved pool,” Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire, said on Monday.

Mr Ngige had made a controversial statement in 2019 that Nigeria had more than enough doctors and that some could leave for greener pastures if they wanted.

Ngige, who is also a doctor, said that not every doctor should practice their profession and that some could go into farming.

Nigerians have expressed disgust at Ngige on Twitter, saying he should also be drafted into the fight against the virus.

Meanwhile, Nigeria has recorded 44 cases of Coronavirus, with top government officials testing positive to the virus.

The Chief of Staff to the President, Abba Kyari tested positive to the virus, with three of his aides, The Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed tested positive to the virus as well.
