** Buhari Pays Tribute To Rev. Sister Henrietta Alokha,  Who Died Saving Her Students During A Lagos Explosion

Rev. Sister Henrietta Alokha, the deceased principal of Bethlehem Girls College, who died rescuing her pupils during Lagos explosion in Abule-Ado area of Lagos, has been buried.

A funeral mass was held in her honour on Thursday at the Sacred Heart Novitiate Chapel, Atani-Uromi, Edo State.

Bethlehem Girls College was among several buildings affected by the explosion on March 15 in Abule-Ado, near the International Trade Fair Complex, Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area of Lagos.

Sis Alokha, it was said, did a headcount after she thought she had rescued all the children.

She then realised some were missing and went back for the rescue. The cleric was able to rescue the pupils but was killed after a roof collapsed on her. Several pupils were injured in the incident.

More than 50 buildings in the area were affected by the explosion, with hundreds of residents made homeless.

Several vehicles parked in the area were also destroyed by the explosion. Overall, about 25 corpses were recovered at the explosion site.

Lagos State Government has set up a relief fund for victims of the explosion with an initial deposit of N250 million.

However, President Muhammadu Buhari has joined the staff and students of Bethlehem Girls College in mourning the school’s deceased principal, Rev. Sis. Henrietta Alokha.

Sister Alokha was buried on Thursday at the Sacred Heart Novitiate Chapel, Atani-Uromi, Edo State.

She died rescuing her pupils during a gas explosion in Abule-Ado area of Lagos on March 15.

In a statement on Friday by the Special Adviser to the President, Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, Buhari said the late principal deserves commendation.

“The President believes Sis. Alokha’s choice to lay down her life for the students she loved deserves commendation while taking into consideration her contributions to the educational development of the country through piety, diligence and charity,” the statement read.

“President Buhari salutes her courage and heroism, assuring that posterity will remember her sacrificial spirit, rescuing children kept under her care, and putting her own life on the line.

“The President prays that the almighty God will accept her soul, comfort her family, and all those she lived and died for.”

Buhari also condoled all who lost their loved ones and property in the pipeline explosion, praying that God would strengthen them in the trying period.
