Business activities are currently paralysed in the commercial and industrial town of, Nnewi.

This appears to be in total compliance of the directive from the state government for a complete shut down of markets and plazas, though with exceptions of foodstuff and medicine markets.

Apart from Nkwo Nnewi which is totally shut down, business plazas have also been under lock and key.

A visit around the town showed that the busy Nnewi GSM Village, located opposite Bakkasi office beside Adili hotel, Nnewi, along Nkwo Nnewi Motor Parts Road, which houses over two hundred (200) shops are closed.

For most of the residents and traders who interacted with Anaedoonline.com, the closure of business activities in the town was a step in the right direction, as this will help avoid the spread of the virus, however, for some, the government should also help provide an economic stimulus package to avoid hunger for the citizens.

It will be recalled that last week, the Executive Governor of Anambra State, Chief Dr. Willie Obiano in line with the fight against the spread of coronavirus ordered the closure of all open markets in the state for 14 days, with effect from Monday, March 30th, 2020.

According to the Anambra State Commissioner for Commerce, Trade and Industry, Hon. Uchenna Okafor (Wiper), Governor Obiano took the decision to close markets because it has been discovered that the markets are breeding grounds for the spread of the virus.
