As part of his contribution towards the fight to stop the spread of coronavirus, the Former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Prof. Kingsley Moghalu has distributed truckloads of food items to different families in Akaboezem Community in Uruagu Nnewi, and widows under Chinedu Widows and Farmers Association, Nnewi, Anambra State.

The food items which include 400 Cartons of Noodles, 25 Bags of Rice, 30 Cartons of Cooking Oil, 50 Cartons of Tomato Paste, was distributed under the auspices of Isaac Moghalu Foundation (IMoF).

Distributing the food items today, Sunday, 19th April 2020, at his Nnewi residence, Prof. Kingsley Chiedu Moghalu, who was represented by Mr. Kenneth Moghalu said that the food items were part of Prof. Moghalu personal efforts to help lessen the effects of the coronavirus lockdown.

Speaking further, he said, “This is our contribution to poor families who have not been reached by any palliative measures of fiscal stimulus by any government in Nigeria”

“Beyond philanthropy interventions, I think it’s very important that we undertake a constitutional restructuring and economic policy that will structurally reduce poverty in our country by investing in education, healthcare and productive skills for our millions of disadvantaged citizens.

He, however, urged the public to obey the restriction order and observe the simple rules of hygiene to prevent further spread of the virus.

Thanking Prof. Kingsley Moghalu, the President-General of Akaboezem Home and Abroad Women, Mrs Julie Onwugbenu, praised him for his philanthropic gesture, nothing that the food items will go a long way in cushioning the effects of the COVID-19 lockdown.

She urged other privileged individuals in the community to emulate Prof. Kingsley’s kind gesture.

On her own part, the Coordinator of Chinedu Widows and Farmers Association, Nnewi, Mrs. Ifeoma Malike said that the association which has over 250 membership have also been beneficiaries of Kingsley Moghalu philanthropic gestures.

He praised the Former CBN Deputy Governor for remembering them, especially in this difficult period, praying that the Almighty God will reward him abundantly.

The Isaac Moghalu Foundation (IMoF) was founded by former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Deputy Governor Dr. Kingsley Chiedu Moghalu in 2005 in memory of his late father, Isaac Moghalu.

IMoF supports children and youth from vulnerable families with scholarships for secondary through university education, provides educational infrastructure support to educational institutions, as well as skills training. The foundation has supported more than 30 students in Nnewi with scholarships and built and donated a classroom block and modern toilet facilities to Akaboezem Secondary School. It has trained disabled women with entrepreneurial skills in Nassarawa State, trained women in entrepreneurship in Kano State, and built and donated a classroom block, modern toilet facilities, and a library to an underprivileged primary school in Gishiri, Abuja Federal Capital Territory.

Mrs. Maryanne Moghalu, Kingsley Moghalu’s wife, is the Executive Director of IMOF.

Isaac Moghalu, Prof. Kingsley Moghalu’s father who passed on in 1999, was one of Nigeria’s pioneer Foreign Service Officers after independence in 1960 and served as a diplomat in Geneva, Switzerland and Washington DC. He later served as a senior civil servant in East-Central and Anambra States and retired as a Deputy Permanent Secretary.
