Imo Govt Reveals N1B Lost To Ghost Workers During Last Administration

More than 1000 ghost workers have been uncovered in Imo state workforce, the Imo State government says.

A release credited to Governor Hope Uzodinma’s Chief Press Secretary quoted the State Commissioner of Finance, Chuck Chukwemeka, saying that about one billion naira (N1bn) has been lost as a result of salary to ghost workers in the state.

He stressed that the heads of ministries and parastatals must change their dance tone in order to actualize the Reconstruction Rehabilitation and Recovery (‘3R’) mantra of Governor Uzodimma’s administration to reposition the state.

According to him, Governor Uzodimma has charged the revenue points of the state to raise the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) base of the government, reiterating that the Single Treasury Account (TSA) system must be fully implemented so as to plug all revenue leakages.

State Commissioner for Information, Hon Declan Emelumba, said stated that huge revenue has been lost by the State Government due to double entries in salary payroll, a situation he stressed people used fictitious names and additional Bank Verification Numbers (BVN) to short-change the government.

The claims came amidst reports that the state government is yet to pay workers revenue for the month of March
NULGE President in the State, .Mr.Richard Eze had lamented how local government workers in the State had not received their salaries.
