The vulva, especially the vag!na is a self sufficient part of the women ‘s body that cleans and sanitizes itself without any assistance from outside its surrounding.

It does not need extra sanitization like douching, hot bath amongst other habits believed to cleans the vag!na aside some basic hygiene.

The vulva is the external genitalia of the women body that comprises of the vaginal opening, clitoris, labia majora, labia minora, urinary meatus (the opening through which you pass out urine)

Most times, we actually feel we should and can keep the vaginal and vulva area as clean as it ought to be as a result, we take a lot of action without knowing we could actually be doing more harm than good, causing discomfort and affecting its overall health.

However, this does not mean they should not clean the vag!nal region at all.

The area around your vagina which includes your labia majora and minora, clitoris, and urinary meatus is very delicate and a million and more reason can cause itch down there ranging from the scented wash, recent s3x activities, vaginal dryness amongst others. It is important to find the origin of every itch to avoid irritating the vag!na that could cause more itch, pain, inflammation, or even worse complications.

2. Sweaty and wet Underwear and Clothes

We should know that bacteria, fungi, and germs habituate and multiply more in a warm moist environment. Hence, wet clothes encourage the growth and development.

3.Cleaning the inside of the Vagina or Not Cleaning

As earlier mentioned the vagina is a self-cleaning organ. Avoid douches that harm the healthy important bacteria like lactobacilli- which leaves your vagina basic (less acidic), and susceptible to growth of various unhealthy bacteria and infections.

Parts of the vagina exposed to urine, sweat, and moist like the labias and clitoris should be washed with water and gentle non-fragrant soaps and wipes to avoid dirt and build-up of bacteria. Avoid using colored, deodorized and strong-smelling soaps and wipes, they irritate the vulva.

Note that some vulva are irritated by any soap at all so you might want to stick to just water and clean cloth dab.

4. Prolonged use of tampons and Pads, Steaming, Wrong wiping, and Crappy Toilet papers

If you are not having any health problems down there, you do not need extra steps like steaming and other vagina trendy cares to cleanse your vagina because they could be quite harmful.

Using deodorized, coloured, thin toilet papers irritates and inflames the vulva region, the best toilet paper to wipe are unscented soft white ones to avoid irritation and when wiping, you wipe from front to back to avoid getting fecal particles into the vulva and vaginal region.

Don’t use your tampons and pads for a long period of time to prevent fungi and bacteria growth.

5. No Foreplay and Wrong Lube

Not been properly lubricated, not lubricating at all, or using the wrong lube before penetration not only cause an uncomfortable and unhappy sex experience; it also leads to tearing and abrasion of the vag!nal tissue. This means you should be properly stimulated and lubricated before penetration.

And if you use lube to deal with vaginal dryness or get extra lubrication, be sure to get the lube that works best for you by experimenting with a smaller size, most preferably non-scented lube with no preservatives to prevent irritation.

6. Testing, Self Diagnoses, and Self Medication

You can’t really say what’s wrong down there if you don’t visit the clinic especially when it is getting stranger than normal.

Self-diagnosis and medication with over the counter drugs (OTC) are not healthy for the vagina without a proper test because most time, during prolonged use of an OTC most people end up trying to treat the wrong infection and not getting results.

Most times, you might just be reacting to condoms or wash you use, which is why it’s best to see a gynecologist.
