The World Health Organization (WHO) has urged countries to note that there is still a long road ahead and a lot of work to do towards curbing the coronavirus crisis.

“But the Pandemic is far from over; I repeat, the coronavirus is far from over,” WHO’s Director, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, said at a press briefing in Geneva.

He also raised alarm about the rising cases in Africa, and other continents.

He stressed that due to low testing capacities, the actual coronavirus situation may be far more than what is reported.

“WHO continues to be concerned about the increasing trends in Africa, Eastern Europe, Latin America and some Asian countries. Cases are underreported in these regions because of low testing capacities,” he said.

He urged countries to continue to find, isolate, test and treat all cases and trace every contact to ensure declining trends continue.

“WHO is doing everything we can to support all countries,” he said.

However, The World Health Organization, WHO, on Tuesday urged countries to apply caution in lifting coronavirus lockdowns, warning of a resurgence of infections if current restrictions were relaxed too soon.

Takeshi Kasai, WHO’s Regional Director for the Western Pacific, said this during an online media briefing in Manila.

Kasai said that lockdown measures have proven effective by reducing transmission of the highly infectious disease coronavirus while easing the burden on the overstretched health system.

“This is going to be a long battle. This is not the time to relax,” Kasai said.
