The Chief Executive Officer(CEO) of Access Bank Plc, Herbert Wigwe, has said that the lockdown has proved that digital technology could do the work of many staff, hinting that some of its workers may no longer be needed.

“I think that if there’s one thing that has come out of this whole lockdown period is the fact that digital is the way forward; it is the fact that we do not need the same complement of staff to take us to where we are going,” Wigwe said in a video obtained by our correspondent.

Recall that since the Coronavirus pandemic entered the country, a presidential directive had restricted banks from operating fully.

But Wigwe said that since the bank had been able to cope without most of its staff, despite the lockdown, it may be adopting that pattern going forward.

He added that non-essential services, particularly from the out-sourced staff, may not be at the levels that may be required in the future.

“So we probably don’t need as many security men as required, even to the fact that we are not gonna have all our branches open between now and December.

“We certainly don’t need all our security men, we don’t need all the tea girls, we don’t need all the cleaners, we don’t need all the tellers, etc,” he said in the video.
