The Amotekun Vigilante group, South West recently formed security agency caught 17 Chinese men illegally mining gold in Ilesha Osun state. This has raised an alarm regarding the way Nigerians are treated in China.

The deputy chief of staff the state governor Abdullahi Binuyo disclosed that the illegal miners had also polluted the Osun River with poisonous metal making it unsafe for consumption.

“As part of the government’s economic reforms, the solid mineral is a major sector we are looking to explore. For these reforms to work, it has become imperative to stop illegal mining and step up enforcement activities. The result is what we are witnessing today”

One of the miners  disclosed to newsmen, that she is unaware their activity constituted illegal mining, she poised that she worked for different companies who have sponsors that are Nigerians and highly placed in Osun state.

Indigenes rumored that traditional rulers have a hand in the illegal business and urged the government to call them for adequate questioning.

This has begged the question revolving on how much of the country’s mineral resources are the Chinese exploiting? The country has witnessed an influx of Chinese in the last years, their propositions seem clear on the table, their true intentions are however unknown.

The Osun state government has announced that the perpetrators will be duly arraigned.
