The Enugu State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, and his Ebonyi counterpart, David Umahi, have agreed to build gates at the borders between both states to help checkmate coronavirus pandemic.

Revealing this in a state-wide broadcast on Wednesday, Umahi said the gates would help in enforcing the lockdown and ban on interstate travelling imposed to curtail the spread of coronavirus [COVID-19].

The governor said the planned border gates would be built in such a way that it will be impossible for people to smuggle themselves into the two states.

“I spoke with Enugu Governor and we agreed to share building of gates together, and it is still on my mind to build gates at our borders, so that when we lock it, we just go home. We will build it in such a way that even if you want to go through the bush, you cannot pass,” he said.

“I am going to be very strict on these border restrictions. If there were restriction of borders, we wouldn’t have even had one case in Ebonyi State and that is the truth.”

Umahi, who noted that some people were still doubting the reality of COVID-19 pandemic, said,

“For those who still doubt that coronavirus is political, I pity them so much. Why can’t you come and prove that by coming to our treatment centres? We will give you access and you will come and embrace those who have it. We will allow you to do that. That is the way to prove that the disease is not real, not on Facebook.”

He further disclosed that a total of 438 people were being held in different holding centres in the State.
