Just In: Adesina Meets Buhari At Aso Arock Amid AfDB Probe

President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), Akinwumi Adesina, on Tuesday, paid a visit to President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. Adesina arrived the State House around 2:55 pm.

The visit comes amid growing concerns over the job Adesina as AfDB President following the call by the United States for independent probe of the AfDB after whistleblowers alleged he was trying to Nigerianise the regional bank.

The bank’s board of directors had received commendations from President Buhari following its May 5 report which exonerated Adesina from the allegations.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo had in a letter to some former African leaders called for support for him who seeks a second term as AfDB boss.

AfDB, a regional multilateral institution, is owned by African countries but with the US as a major shareholder after Nigeria.

Former President of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo, has called on former African presidents to support the President of African Development Bank (AfDB), Dr Akinwumi Adesina, in the midst of controversial ‘probe’ from outside the African region.

Obasanjo took time out to exhaust some of the achievements of the former Minister of Agriculture as the President of AfDB. In its four-page letter which he copied 14 former presidents, Obasanjo noted that despite the achievements and impressive leadership and passion for Africa’s fast-paced development, some non-regional member countries of AfDB are trying to frustrate Dr Adesina’s reelection.
