The Ghanaian government on Friday held a funeral service in honour of George Floyd, the unarmed African-American man who died after a white police officer knelt on his neck during an arrest in Minneapolis last week.
The funeral service which was organized by the country’s Ministry of Tourism Arts and Culture, The Ghana Tourism Authority, Office of Diaspora Affairs (Office of the President), and the Diaspora African Forum took place at the Dubois Centre on Friday morning.
Protest Continues In U.S As 40 Cities Impose Curfews
The event was attended by several government officials including a former president, Jerry John Rawlings, who took to the stage to deliver a touching tribute to George Floyd.
However, Panic and great tension has continued as several U.S cities imposed curfews and multiple states deployed National Guard troops, as the country faced a fresh wave of demonstrations following the killing of George Floyd by a white police officer.
At least 40 cities and Washington, DC, have imposed curfews in response to protests across the country this weekend over the death of the unarmed 46-year-old black man at the hands of a white officer in Minneapolis, World News reported.

Additionally, approximately 5,000 National Guard members have been activated in 15 states and Washington, DC, with another 2,000 prepared to activate if needed.
The United States has faced a week of demonstrations with largely peaceful daytime protests turning into violent clashes at night after the death of Floyd.
