Enugu Govt Says 23 Health Workers Infected With COVID-19

The Enugu state government has said that at least, 23 health workers in the state have contracted the deadly COVID-19 disease.

State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Ikechukwu Obi stated this on Monday while providing updates on the COVID-19 status of the state.

According to him, the state has so far recorded a total of 57 cases of the virus with the latest update.

He noted that of the 57 cases, 23 were health workers who contracted the virus in the line of duty.

“The state has 57 positive cases, 26 active cases, 26 discharge and five deaths, 23 out of the 57 cases are health worker infections,” Professor Obi said in a statement.

He, therefore, urged residents of the state to stay at home and make sure they wore face masks any time they have reasons to move outside their homes.

He advised them to always use sanitisers where facilities for handwashing were unavailable in order to stay safe from the dreaded pandemic.

In another story, Enugu state government has confirmed an increase in the number of COVID-19 cases in the state.

In a statement made available by the State Commissioner for Health, Obi Emmanuel Ikechukwu, the new case was a nine year old child who had a positive travel history.

The latest confirmation takes the number of cases ever reported in the state to nine with seven active cases.

According to the statement, the patient has since been admitted into one of the isolation and treatment centres in the state as further contacts are being identified and listed.

“Necessary samples will be taken for testing even as decontamination of the patient’s home has been promptly carried out” the state added.

While reminding residents in the state to stay at home and only go out when absolutely necessary, it advised them to wear an appropriate face mask, avoid touching the front of the mask.
