A 20-year-old man has been arrested by men of the Anambra state police command for allegedly raping his neighbour’s 6-year-old daughter in Ogbudike Okpoko in Anambra state.
The 20-year-old man identified as Chikwado Anijiofor, was arrested on Wednesday, June 17 after a tip-off after which he voluntarily confessed to raping the 6-year-old. The little girl was taken to the hospital for medical examinations and care.
Spokesperson of the state police command, Haruna Mohammed, told newsmen;

“On the 19/6/2020 at about 10:am following a tip-off, Police operatives attached to Okpoko Division arrested one Chikwado Anijiofor ‘m’ aged 20-year-old native of Agbaumana in Eziagu LGA of Enugu State but reside at Ogbudike Okpoko.
The 20-year-old suspect had on the 17/6/2020 allegedly defiled a six-year-old girl who happens to be his neighbour’s daughter. The scene was visited by police detectives and the victim taken to the hospital for medical examination.
However, the 20-year-old suspect has voluntarily confessed to the offence.” the statement read.

Meanwhile, Abubakar Malami, Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), says plans are underway to establish special courts for the speedy trial of rape cases.
There has been surge in the number of rape cases recorded in the country.
Mohammed Adamu, Inspector-General of Police (IGP), had said 717 rape cases were recorded within seven months.
