Weeks After Approval, Accunalysis Diagnostic Center, Nnewi, Yet To Start Covid-19 Test

Weeks after Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) approval, Accunalysis Diagnostics Center Ltd, Nnewi, is yet start coronavirus testing.

Anaedoonline.com reliably gathered that the Laboratory is yet to carry out any Covid-19 test, despite NCDC’s approval of their facilities.

Confirming the development, the Chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee (CMAC) of Nnamdi Azikiwe Teaching Hospital, Nnewi, Dr. Joe Ugboaja, said that despite the approval of the Diagnostic Center, the Laboratory is yet to be operational.

According to him, all samples of all suspected Covid-19 cases in Nnewi and in Anambra State, are still taken to Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital (formerly Otibhor Okhae Teaching Hospital), Edo State.

He lamented that the continued transportation of sample results to Irrua, is costing Nnamdi Azikiwe Teaching, Nnewi, a lot of money.

Dr. Joe Ugboaja however, noted that if the Ultra-modern Molecular Laboratory becomes operational, the hospital will take advantage of the facility, and testing will be improved.

It will be recalled that on Sunday, May 17th, 2020, the Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) approved the ultra-modern molecular laboratory, Accunalysis Diagnostics Center Ltd, Nnewi, as a test center for COVID-19 in Anambra State.

The approval made the Nnewi private hospital, the first NCDC approved testing center in Anambra State.
