The Evolution In The Last Decade And A Projection Of The Next Decade

Like it or not, the 21st century is on a fast lane, things are moving rapidly, every day, technological and economic advancements are invented. Between 2010 to 2020, there has been a plethora of ideas birth into concepts and turned into living things among us.

Whatsapp for instance was founded in 2009, with full operation in 2010 fazing off 2go. Twitter, Youtube, and Instagram became popular in the last decade. These applications have become a huge part of our everyday lives.

We also experienced an evolution in the banking sector by way of Fintech wherefore from the comfort of your house, you can literally do any financial transaction without needing a banking hall. How did 10 years make such a huge difference- Innovation.

The language of the 21st century is “innovate or die,” you cannot afford to be stagnant, however, it is pertinent to note that, while the world is evolving, Nigeria has remained stagnant and by some financial statistics- depreciated and the reason is not far-fetched. (keep reading).

In 2010 when the decade started, we lost a 58-year-old president and replaced him with a 52-year-old who was in office till he was 57. Goodluck Jonathan might have been a good man but he didn’t understand the language of the century, his government did not witness any evolution, nothing new, same old road and insecurity conversations, neither did most persons he put in power see trending opportunities.

In another election, half of the decade 2015, the country elected Muhammadu Buhari, a 72-year-old. PMB’s scorecard thus far is not our primary concern, however, it is obvious the country has made retrogressive strides and no evolution recorded.

While pondering on these, it would be important to understand one thing, like teaching my 50-year-old mother to use a mobile phone is all too tasking for her and seamless for me, is the same way expecting a 50+-year-old to adapt to the language of the century is almost impossible.

The century needs people who find adaptation, evolution, innovation and technology seamless. Until we open this line of conversation, then the country is not ready for any form of development.

Where will we be in the next decade if each president and elected governor serves an 8-year tenure (which has become a norm in Nigeria) is entirely up to us?

This means that in the next elections, the decision of who rules the country or states will be key to what 2030 will look like for us as a people.
