COVID-19: FG Considers Enforcing Lockdown In 20 Local Government Areas

The federal government has revealed the names of the 20 high burden local government areas that may come under locked down to contain the spread of COVID-19 in the country.

The Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 made the disclosure on Monday, June 29, after President Muhammadu Buhari was briefed about the four-week gradual easing of lockdown,The list revealed by the government showed that 11 of those local government areas are in Lagos state.

The chairman of PTF, Boss Mustapha, however, noted that state government and local authorities where the councils are located will oversee the lockdown.

The list of the local government areas that may come under locked down include: In Lagos state:

2. Mushin
3. Eti-Osa
4. Alimosho
5. Kosofe
6. Ikeja
7. Oshodi/Isolo
8 Apapa
9. Amuwo Odofin
10. Lagos Island .
11. Surulere
12. Abuja Municipal
13. Tarauni (Kano)
14. Katsina
15. Maiduguri (Borno)
16. Dutse (Jigawa)
17. Ado Odo/Ota (Ogun)
18. Nassarawa (Kano)
19. Oredo (Edo)
20. Bauchi

Meanwhile, Nigeria on Tuesday, June 30, recorded 561 new cases of coronavirus pandemic in nineteen states, bringing the total confirmed infection figure to 25,694. This was announced by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) in a tweet as the seventy more deaths were also recorded.

As usual, 200 new cases were reported in Lagos which is the epicentre of the virus in Nigeria while Edo state followed on the log with 119 cases. Kaduna and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) recorded 52 cases each while Niger has 32. Ogun state has 19 cases, Ondo has 16, Imo 14 and Plateau 11 cases.

Eight new cases were reported in each of Abia and Oyo states, while Bayelsa followed behind with seven cases. Katsina state has six cases.
