The Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, on Monday announced that the plan to recruit 774,000 youths in Nigeria will be handled by the National Directorate of Employment (NDE).

The 774,000 youths across the country are to be recruited as part of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government COVID-19 palliative measures.

The President of the Senate, however, noted that the Ministry of Labour and Productivity and the NDE must first explain the modalities for the recruitment process.

He said, “Only NDE will implement this programme. The NDE led by the ministry of labour will have to come and explain.”

“It will be unfair to say that we in the legislature and executive are not on the same page because of an action by someone in the executive. What the National Assembly is insisting on is in the national interest.”

Recall that the National Assembly last week charged President Muhammadu Buhari to suspend the recruitment process following the disagreement between the Minister of State for Labour, Festus Keyamo and the joint panel of the two chambers of the federal parliament.

The federal lawmakers asked the minister to go following his refusal to apologise after the legislators accused him of raising his voice against them.
