Seven cows were on Tuesday struck to death by lightning at Elepo village, Ifon Osun in Orolu Local Government area of Osun state.

It was gathered that the cattle were killed at the ranch after returning from the grazing field at the Elepo village.

One of the residents in the community, Mistura Adeleke described the incident as a mystery.

He sympathised with the owners while urging them to burn the dead cows to avoid an outbreak of an epidemic.

“It is the first time such a frightening incident would happen in this area. We have over the years been living harmoniously with Fulani in our domain.

“The death of the cows belonging to the Fulani cattle rearers living among us was a natural occurrence occasioned by thunder that struck in the town.”

In another report, Lethal lightening that trailed the Wednesday early morning drizzling has struck the Itele – Ijebu Command Post of the Federal Road Safety Corp (FRSC) along Ijebu – Ode – Ore expressway, killing three officials and throwing others to the ground.

The incident occurred around 10am at the Corps Command Post located at the Old toll gate corridor of the expressway, throwing the Ogun State sector Command of the FRSC into a hushed mourning.

It was gathered that lightening struck just as the FRSC officials were about observing their routine morning parade within the precinct of the office.

About a dozen of them were said to be around when the lightening struck, killing the three on the spot and also sent an electrical shock wave into the premises, jolting some of the survivors.
The FRSC Public Education and enlightenment Officer in Ogun State, Florence Okpe, confirmed the incident but declined further comments.

Okpe, who promised to issue a statement in respect of the incident, said the Corps’s Sector Commander had gone to Ilese to access the situation.
