Super Eagles’ playmaker, Alex Iwobi, has been nominated for two prestigious end of season awards at Everton, informs the official website of the Toffees.

The former Arsenal star has been shortlisted for the Player of the Season and Young Player of the Season awards.

Every Everton player who has made a first-team appearance is eligible to be voted as player of the season, while nominees for the young player of the season accolade must have played for the first team at the age of 23 or under at the start of the season.

Joining Iwobi on the eight-man shortlist for Young Player of the Season are Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Tom Davies, Anthony Gordon, Mason Holgate, Jean-Philippe Gbamin, Moise Kean and Richarlison.

The Nigeria international has 26 games under his belt since joining Everton on the final day of the transfer window last summer and found the net in his first two starts

Iwobi has shaken off a hamstring injury tand featured in Everton’s starting lineup against an in-form Southampton at Goodison Park.

Alex Iwobi was hooked at half-time by Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti on Monday night as the Toffees suffered a 1-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur – and Arsenal supporters have reacted on Twitter.

Spurs earned a crucial three points in the hunt for European football as Gio Lo Celso’s effort was inadvertently deflected into the back of the net by England defender Michael Keane. It proved to be the only goal of the game.

Both sides lack any cutting edge, with both enduring topsy-turvy seasons that see them sit in mid-table. Iwobi, like Everton, has struggled – failing to prove his £35million (Telegraph) fee which took him to Everton last summer.

The Nigeria international has managed 26 appearances in all competitions for Everton throughout 2019-20, but has scored just two goals – one of which came in the FA Cup against Lincoln City. The other against Wolves.

Despite Everton’s big financial outlay on the versatile attacker, Iwobi has really struggled at Everton – with a hamstring injury in ruling him out midway through the campaign. He was taken off at half-time on Monday.

Replaced by youngster Anthony Gordon, many Arsenal fans could not believe that their club had raked in a fee as high as £35million for Iwobi – as they watched their former player struggle in the blue of Everton.
