A number of fans went on Twitter to racially abuse the England international using all sort of illustrations.

Some branded the 22-year-old Apebraham but Twitter were quick to put down horrible abuses rained on the striker as many of the accounts were deleted.

“I remember speaking to my mum, she was emotional, she was in tears. “For me, I am a strong character, it doesn’t affect me as much, but it could affect people who don’t have my personality.

“I was sat in the changing room straight after the game and went on my phone. I wasn’t going to shy away from the situation, although I did have some supportive messages. The other side is not nice to hear.

“I went through a lot of emotion after the penalty miss. I had experience of taking penalties last season, big ones as well. Everyone misses penalties. To miss the penalty… I was devastated and I had a lot of abuse after,” The Sun quoting Abraham’s comments in September.

The 22-year-old scored the Blues’ third goal in their 3-2 win over Crystal Palace after coming in as a substitute for Olivier Giroud.

Abraham’s initial deal at Stamford Bridge will originally expire at the end of the 2022 season but it has been extended to 2023.

David McGoldrick scored two goals in each half of the match as Oliver McBurnie also got his name on the scoresheet at Bramall Lane.

Ross Barkley was the first to test Sheffield’s goalkeeper Dean Henderson in goal as early as the second minuted but his shot did not trouble the shot-stopper.
