The federal government of Nigeria has announced that final year students of secondary schools in Nigeria will start their West African Examinations Council (WAEC) exams by August 17.
This was disclosed on Monday in a statement by Ben Bem Goong, Director Press and Public Relations of the Federal Ministry of Education.

According to the statement, this development follows the consultative meeting between the Federal Ministry of Education, Commissioners of Education in the 36 states, the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT), proprietors of private schools, and the Chief Executives of examination bodies.
To this end, the government announced that secondary schools in the country are to reopen by August 4, 2020 to enable final year students to prepare for their WAEC exams which will commence by August 17.
However, only the exit classes are to reopen according to a statement on Monday by the federal ministry of education on its Twitter handle.

Anaedoonline.ng recalls the federal government had previously disclosed that it was unsafe to open the schools for students to write their West African Examinations Council (WAEC) exams over the fears of further spreading the Coronavirus infection.
Monday’s statement also added that another meeting will be held tomorrow (Tuesday) with other examination bodies such as NECO, NABTEB, and others to harmonize their 2020 examination timetable.
