A goal each from Abdulkadir Omur and Alexander Soerloth in either half of the encounter seal the victory for Eddie Newton’s men.

It would be recalled that they narrowly missed out of the league title to Istanbul Basaksehir after finishing second on the log with 65 points – four-point shy of the eventual winners.

Mikel who terminated his contract with the club abruptly earlier this year over the league body’s failure to suspend football when coronavirus was declared a pandemic.

The Chelsea legend and his employers had a bust-up before the Nigerian star walked away from his two-year deal barely one year after joining them.

They wanted him to continue playing for them but the former Champions League winner chose to end his stay at the club citing the safety of his family as his major reason.

Meanwhile, Super Eagles striker Anthony Nwakaeme played all 90 minutes on the bench as Trabzonspor finally win their first title since 2010.

Mikel Obi posted on his official Instagram handle: “Congratulations, Trabzonspor on winning the Cup final. well done, boys and the city deserve it”

The last time Trabzonspor won silverware was in 2010 when they won both the Turkish Cup and the Turkish Super Cup. Mikel is still unattached despite being linked with a few clubs.

It will be recalled that Anaedoonline.ng reported that Trabzonspor’s fans have angrily attacked the club’s management claiming that the sacking of former Super Eagles captain John Obi Mikel made them lose the 2019/20 League title.

Before football and other sporting activities were suspended in Turkey and many parts of the world, Trabzonspor were topping the League table.

However, Mikel called for the League to be stopped because of the spread of the coronavirus in Turkey and his contract was terminated by Trabzonspor.
