Selebobo is a name you are familiar with in the Nigerian music industry, however,  his real name Udoka Chigozie Oku might not ring so much bell to your ears. Often regarded as the DJ Khalid of African music after he successfully gave Yemi Alade her biggest song in her career. Here is everything you need to know.

Selebobo: Age and Early life

Selebobo was born on July 29 1992 in Ukpo ,Oranto village dunukofia LAG, Anambra State. Selebobo is the 7th child in a family of 12. He comes from a family line that is well talented in singing and playing musical instruments. He was raised in enugu State where he completed his primary and Secondary education. As a child, he discovered his musical talent in secondary school and his parents supported him to pursue it.

“When I was little, in primary school, it’s kind of funny (laughs) but I grew up knowing that I can always go to a studio; my dad owned a studio – he still does. Every time I finish from school, he takes me to the studio before I go home, so that has been my life. I found myself playing with some of his instruments – he didn’t like it at first but I was stubborn, he eventually let me be. When I finished secondary school I decided to take it to the next level.

Selebobo studied ‘Fine Arts’ at Nnamdi Azikiwe University.

Selebobo: Career/Discography

Selebobo has an impressive discography. Most times it’s not about the number of tracks but the quality of tracks. He recorded and mixed Yemi Alade’s hit song “Johnny” which has amassed over a hundred million views on Youtube. Selebobo also mixed the beats of hit songs like Ada Ada for Mr Flavour and Mr Oreo single for Iyanya.

He would later join Ubi Franklin’s label Made Men Music Group (TripleMG), alongside Emma Nyra, Iyanya, Tekno and Baci. Some of his songs include “Lose Control”, “Odeshi” featuring Flavour, “No Letting Go” featuring Uganda’s Keko, “Kulenje” featuring Stormrex.

He has won and got nominated for several awards such as:
