The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) will inaugurate a six-man Caretaker Committee for the Anambra State Football Association (ASFA) today, following the expiration of the tenure of the Dr. Ifeanyi Ubah-led executive team.
However, the move has been criticized by a former second vice-president of the NFF, Victor Baribote, who described the move as lack of respect for the NFF statute.
The Caretaker Committee has Emmanuel Okeke as chairman and Onyedika Chijioke as secretary. Others are Victor Nwangwu – Vice Chairman; Mrs. Charity Ebere Okonkwo; Mrs. Onyeabo Chimezie Success and Mr. Nonso Philip as members.
The Committee will administer the activities of the ASFA and conduct elections into the Board of ASFA and the Anambra State Local Football Councils within three months, effective from August 4, 2020 to November 2, 2020.
According to Baribote, “Now it is very clear that the NFF board led by Amaju Pinnick does not follow the statutes that guide it.”
It would be recalled that Anaedoonline.ng reported that the Senator representing Anambra South Senatorial District in the Nigeria Senate and the erstwhile Chairman of Anambra Football Association, Sen. Dr. Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah is not having an easy ride in his quest to retain his status as the Football Association chairman in the state.
This is coming days after the Anambra government indefinitely postponed any elections in the state because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to a statement credited to the Senator’s Head of Media, Mr. Kamen Chuks, he wrote on his Facebook that “Distinguished Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Ubah was unanimously re-elected Chairman of Anambra State Football Association.”
Almost immediately the announcement was made by his media aide, there was a corresponding press release that was issued by the media and publicity arm of the ministry that nothing of such happened as the government ban on election affairs hasn’t been overturned.
The Senator whose picture appeared with some members of the association, where they were said to have cast their votes for the elections despite the early warning from the government was cheered by his teeming supporters as he was said to have been declared the winner.
