Nnewi is believed to have the most number of Naira-billionaires in Africa, this is because of their passion for entrepreneurship and ingenuity in business.

Nnewi produced the first billionaire in Nigeria, Louis Odumegwu Ojukwu, who founded the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE).

In just one generation, the town has produced many male billionaires that have laid the foundation for many others to emerge.

While the men folks appear to always be in the dominance, there are many unsung Nnewi women who are also accumulating wealth through their hard work and dedication and are also building successful brand names and businesses in the world.

1. Stella Chinyelu Okoli

Stella was born in Kano State, Northern Nigeria into the family of Felix Ebelechukwu and Margaret Modebelu, both from Nnewi in Anambra State. She started her formal education in 1954 in Onitsha before proceeding to complete her secondary school education in Ogidi.

She is also a graduate of Pharmacy from the University of Bradford. She also holds an M.Sc certificate in Biopharmaceutical after graduating from the University of London, Chelsea College.

Stella Chinyelu Okoli is the founder of Emzor Pharmaceutical. Before establishing Emzor, she worked in several pharmaceutical firms including Middlesex Hospital, London, Boots the Chemists Limited, and Pharma-Deko.

In January 1977, Stella started Emzor Pharmaceutical with the initial name “Emzor Chemists Limited” as a small pharmacy retail shop in Shomolu, Lagos State.

Emzor Pharmaceutical has since become one of the leading pharmaceutical companies in Nigeria with over 50 products since its incorporation in 1984.

Stella is ranked the 4th richest Nigeria Woman with a net worth of $800 Million.

2. Lolo Elizabeth Adili Ubah

Elizabeth Adili Ubah is a Kano based businesswoman and industrialist, she has been in the business industry since the 1990s. She is one of the unsung successful Igbo businesswomen in Nigeria.

Lolo Elizabeth is originally from Umuanuka Otolo Nnewi but is married to Late Chief David Adili Ubah from Inyaba Umudim Nnewi.

She has many factories in Kano, where she produces Snuff in a commercial quantity. She started the process of producing snuff and was engaged in other businesses before her years of hard work made her Snuff business to become a multi-million Naira establishment.

She is among the richest women in Kano, owning various establishments and properties to herself. It is believed that she is one of the biggest snuff producers in Nigeria.

3. Dame Barr. Uju Uchendu Ozoka (Ogbogu Nnewi)

Dame Barr. Uju Uchendu Ozoka is a Nigerian Politician. She has contested for both the Nigeria Presidential election and Anambra State. Governorship election. She is originally from Umudim Nnewi but married to Otolo Nnewi.

In Abuja, she is known as a generous philanthropist. She has been giving succour to the less privileges for over a decade. Hundreds of indigent children are under her scholarship programs.

She is the Rotary President of Abuja District, a Governing Board Member of University Jos (UniJos).

Ogbogu Nnewi is also a prolific writer, public analyst, mother of three (3), publisher and a lawyer. She has authored many books.

One of her books “World Queens: The Beauty, the Hurdles and the Crown” was launched by the then Nigeria First Lady, Mrs. Stella Obasanjo.
