The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) via its Twitter, on Monday night, twitted that 290 new cases of COVID-19 was recorded in Nigeria with the total number of discharged patients as 33,346.

 

A musician in Kano State has been sentenced to death by hanging for blaspheming against the Prophet Muhammad. The Kano Upper Shari’a Court sitting at Hausawa Filin Hockey sentenced 22-year-old Yahaya Sharif to death by hanging. The judge, Aliyu Kani, gave the verdict on Monday after finding Mr. Sharif guilty as charged. He was convicted based on Section 382 (b) of Kano penal code of 2000.

Senate Committee on Science and Technology has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to accord attention to the development of science and technology to move the nation’s economy forward. Chairperson of the committee, Senator Uche Ekwunife made the call on Monday while leading other Committee members to a familiarization visit to South East Zonal headquarters of National Board for Technology Incubation (NBTI), Nnewi, Anambra State.

In a statement by the Chief of staff to the governor, Chief Anthony Agbazuere, stated that the order came as a result of an unwarranted attack of men of the Abia State Fire Service and the destruction of its vehicles.

The founder and General Overseer of The Church of Lord, Olomore Abeokuta identified as Ajigbotoluwa has been arrested by police officers in Ogun state for defiling and impregnating two teenage sisters. It was gathered that the General Overseer was arrested after the mother of the victims told the police at Lafenwa. In her narration, she revealed fell sick sometimes in 2018 and was taken to the church for spiritual healing. She accused the said pastor of seizing the opportunity to ask her entire family of six to relocate to the church premises to avoid being afflicted with the same sickness.

Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God has stated that the world may come to an end before the 69th convention. He stated this on Friday during the 68th Annual Convention of the church, which held virtually. The renowned cleric, however, stated that he does know when the Lord will return but urged his members whom he often refers to as my children to prepare for the end.

The Governor of Imo state, Hope Uzodimma has filed a complaint to the National Judicial Council (NJC) and Abubakar Malami, attorney-general of the federation over the label “supreme court governor” used to address him by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) after the declaration of his governorship by the court. Batos Chikezie, a special adviser to Uzodinma on political matters said the Imo state Governor filed the petition to stop Ogubundu Nwadike, the publicity secretary for PDP in the state and other loyalists from using the “supreme court governor” tag as it is derogatory and misleading.

 

Controversial investigative journalist, Kemi Olunloyo, has asked DStv to remove national broadcaster NTA News 24 from channel 419. The numbers 419 is a colloquial term for fraud in Nigeria. Tweeting early Monday, Mrs Olunloyo accused DStv of being disrespectful despite the efforts of the Nigerian government to end apartheid in South Africa.

Former Minister of Petroleum, Diezani Alison-Madueke, has bemoaned the deterioration of values in society. The former Minister, in a video posted online Sunday, was speaking at a virtual conference organised by an umbrella body of Ijaw cultural associations, the Ijaw Development Group (INDG).
