The Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Orji Kalu, says Nigeria’s unity is paramount and not negotiable in what can best be described as a message to Nnamdi Kanu and other pro-Biafra agitators.

Anaedoonline.ng reports that Kalu, who is a former governor of Abia State, where the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu hails, made this comment on Tuesday at the palace of Eze Dr G. I Ezekwesiri Ochi 1 of Isuochi, Umunneochi LGA of Abia State, southeast Nigeria.

Senator Kalu equally commended President Muhammadu Buhari in his determined efforts to curb insurgency in the North-East even as he acknowledged the role of traditional rulers in sensitizing the people on the need for national cohesion.

His words: “the efforts of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led federal government in the fight against insurgency should be applauded.

“The role of traditional institutions in promoting peace and harmony cannot be undermined. Royal fathers are close to the grassroots and as such, they should be supported in the noble cause of nation-building.

“Nigerians must place national interest above personal and selfish ambitions. Nigeria is one and united”.

While calling for close collaboration among all tiers of government, the former governor urged community leaders to support the government’s efforts in overcoming the menace of violence and other social vices.

Appreciating Kalu’s giant strides across Nigeria, Eze Ezekwesiri urged Kalu to sustain his philanthropic efforts, which he described as robust and legendary, adding that the exemplary leadership qualities of the Senate Chief Whip will earn him greater leadership opportunities in the nearest future.
