Anambra Govt Suspends 12 Monarchs For One Year, Retrieves Their “Igweship Certificates”

The Anambra state government has suspended the ‘Igweship’ certificates of 12 monarchs for 12 months. This to many is as a result of a video that was leaked some days back when they visited a popular businessman in the state, as money was shared among themselves. 

The suspension was confirmed as a press release issued on behalf of the state government by the commissioner for local government and chieftaincy matters, Hon. Greg Obi was in public circulated amongst social media platforms. The cause of the suspension according to the press release is a result of a purported trip they made outside the state without the authorization from the state government. 

The press release titled “Suspension of Twelve(12) Traditional Rulers In Anambra State,” that was issued on Tuesday, 11th August 2020 had the names of the  following traditional rulers in some communities in Anambra as listed below:

 

  • Igwe Alex Edozieuno — Mkpunando
  • Igwe Mark Anthony Okonkwo — Alor
  • Igwe Chukuwma Bob Vincent Orji — Ezinifite
  • Igwe Engr G.B.C Mbakwe — Abacha
  • Igwe Chijioke Nwankwo — Nawfia
  • Igwe Nkeli Nelly — Igbariam
  • Igwe Anthony Onyekwere — Owelle
  • Igwe A. N Onwuneme — Ikenga
  • Igwe Simon Ikechukwu Chidubem — Umumbo
  • Igwe S. O Uche — Ezira
  • Igwe Dr Emeka Ilouno — Ifitedunu
  • Igwe Peter Ikegbunem Udoji — Eziagulu Otu. 

The suspension took effect from Tuesday, August 11, 2020.
