Some concerned traditional rulers from Anambra state, Thursday, suspended the Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Alfred Achebe as the chairman of the state’s traditional rulers’ council over alleged high handedness and dictatorship. The monarchs, who had earlier been suspended by the state’s governor, Willie Obiano over alleged misconduct for one year, also claimed that the tenure of Obi had expired as the chairman of the state’s traditional rulers’ council.

 

Paris Saint-Germain have registered their interest in Manchester United striker Odion Ighalo, according to reports. Ighalo returned to the Premier League from China when joining United on loan in January. The former Watford striker has impressed in patches, scoring five goals in cup competitions. His form prompted United to extend his loan until January 2021. However, he has still not started a Premier League game for them.

Governor Nasir El-Rufai has accused some religious leaders of fanning the flames that cause the violence in Kaduna State. He made this known when receiving a delegation led by Primate of the Anglican Church of Nigeria, Most Reverend Henry Ndukuba. El-Rufai said “the main drivers of this violence are a few clerics that use their platforms, not to preach peaceful co-existence or promote our common humanity.

 

Suspected gunmen have killed the lawmaker representing Baraza Dass Constituency in Bauchi Assembly, Hon. Musa Mante. Information gathered revealed that the lawmaker was killed on Thursday night in his residence in Dass Local Government Area.

 

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has approved the re-opening of the Asaba International Airport for commercial operations. The approval was conveyed to the Delta State Government following the inspection of Asaba International Airport last week by officials of the NCAA to ascertain the level of preparedness for its re-opening pursuant to the Federal Government’s lifting of the ban on local Air Travel.

Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu has sent a delegation to investigate the alleged maltreatment of workers by a Chinese company, Inner Galaxy Steel Company, located at Umuahala, Obuzor Asa, in Ukwa West council area. A jilted husband axed his estranged wife to death and then hung himself in a bizarre manner which shocked many residents. The jilted man identified as Pride Hove, from Zimbabwe was said to have hung himself after fatally axing his estranged wife following a dispute over suspected infidelity. According to iHarare, Patience Matura received a love text message on her cell phone, which angered her estranged husband leading to a misunderstanding that turned violent.

In Ogun state, a fake lawyer, Adedeji Ebenezer Oluwagbenga, was sentenced to three years imprisonment with hard labor and without the option of fine. Speaking to newsmen, the spokesperson of the state police command, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said Adedeji, who was arrested on August 5 at Itori Chief Magistrate Court where he appeared for a client, was convicted on Wednesday, August 12.

Edo state governor, Godwin Obaseki has today claimed that an attack was launched on his convoy at ward 10, Apana, Etsako west local government area of the state, which is Adams Oshiomhole, former national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s ward. This Obaseki made known in a statement through his spokesman, Crusoe Osagie. He said the suspected thugs behind the attack were dislodged by a combined team of security personnel and vigilante groups.
