Mikel Scores His First Stoke City’s Goal In 5-1 Win Over Shrewsbury Town

Super Eagles legend John Obi Mikel has began his career at English Championship club Stoke City on an impressive note after scoring for the side in their 5-1 win over Shrewsbury Town.

Although the encounter was a pre-season friendly, but the former Chelsea midfielder showed that he is in good shape and form to do well for Stoke City in their campaign in the coming season.

Stoke City started the match impressively and it took them only 10 minutes to open scoring through Tashan Oakley-Boothe who scored in an incredible fashion.

But five minutes later, Shrewsbury restored parity via a penalty which however made the encounter more tougher.

Three minutes to the end of the first half, Stoke City scored their second goal through John Mikel Obi who was in a good position to tap in a cross from Davies.

Mikel did not return to the pitch for the second half as Stoke City went on to score three more goals to win the encounter.

Stoke City chiefs signed Mikel Obi so as for him to help their quest of returning to the Premier League.

Having won the Premier League, FA, and Champions League titles at Chelsea, Mikel Obi is not a stranger as far as English football is concerned. The 33-year-old will hope to shine for Stoke City in the coming League season.

Earlier, Legit.ng had reported how John Obi Mikel finally signed for Championship side Stoke City after ending speculation about his future.

The former Nigerian international will be plying his trade at Britannia, home of the famous red and white club.

The 33-year-old will be Stoke’s fourth signing after Morgan Fox, James Chester and Steven Fletcher and the club are delighted to announce his arrival at the bet365 Stadium.
