The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State, on Monday, 7th September 2020, accused the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) of stage- managing violence in some local government areas with the intention of compelling the authorities to declare a state of emergency in the state and consequently postpone the September 19, 2020 governorship election. The State Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr Chris Osa Nehikhare, who made the accusation during a press conference in Benin City, on Monday, said the APC is only scared of its candidate and Edo State Governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki, and has resorted to the irresponsible tactic to subvert the will of Edo people.

According to him, “Knowing that they have lost the election, they are now looking for all ways and means to have the election postponed, have a state of emergency declared or not to have the election at all.

“APC is now concocting violence on its supporters and members. We condemn this irresponsible tactic where nothing would happen and APC would want to create or contrive violence in Edo State.”

Nehikhare continued: “The Oba of Benin called all political gladiators to a peace meeting in his palace, urging them to sheath their sword. We are happy to announce to you that even though we were the victims, we have accepted the intervention of His Majesty. Since the Oba spoke on the issue we can cautiously say that there have been no new reported cases of violence on our leaders across the three Senatorial Districts in the state.

“We challenged them (APC) a few days ago, prior to the Oba’s intervention to produce and catalogue where any APC person was attacked. Let them produce it like the PDP has done, which is in the public domain. PDP is committed to a free, fair, peaceful and credible election come September 19, 2020.”

The party further noted: “The Simple Agenda of the APC does not talk about the post-COVID-19 era of the economy and global downturn. It’s all rhetorics no substance, they use flowery words to bamboozle people.
The Simple Agenda reminds me of the fake promises made by the APC in 2015, promising to reduce fuel price, give every child a meal each day, reduce unemployment, attain Naira-Dollar parity etc. We are better informed now that those words were spoken just to get votes. Just like Nigeria became the poverty capital of the world under APC, an APC government in Edo will reverse the gains achieved in Edo State by the Governor Obaseki government.
Under PDP, Nigeria was among the fifth fastest-growing economies in the world. APC in Edo state lacks the capacity, vision, temperament and even compassion to manage a state like Edo.

“The APC is a collection of people that make promises that they cannot keep”

Edo people must reject a party that its only motivation is the treasury and how to get its hands on our resources and use it to settle the IOUs it has accumulated since Governor Obaseki shut them out.

Nehikhare urges all Edo people to come out enmass on Saturday, September 19, 2020, to vote for PDP and Governor Obaseki.

For PDP, it’s Edo First. He concluded.
