Arsenal captain, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, has withdrawn from Gabon’s friendly against Benin Republic due to an ankle injury.

Aubameyang was on the receiving end of a heavy tackle from Sander Berge during the Gunners’ 2-1 victory over Sheffield United last Sunday.

The 31-year-old however managed to complete the full 90 minutes of the game.

But he will not be available when his country takes on Benin.

“Aubameyang suffers from a small sprained ankle, contracted on Sunday, during the Premier League match against Sheffield United,” Gabon coach, Patrice Neveu, said.

“The Arsenal doctor sent me a certificate indicating his unavailability. He is in care for a week.”

Aubameyang could now be a doubt for Arsenal’s next Premier League fixture against Manchester City on October 17.

Mikel Arteta could also be without Kieran Tierney for the trip to The Etohad, after he was instructed to self-isolate for 14 days.
