#Lekki Massacre: LCC Opens Up on Why Lights Were Off

The Lekki Concession Company, on Tuesday, opened up on why lights went off on 20 October, the day military officers allegedly shot at End SARS protesters at Lekki Toll Gate.

Abayomi Omomuwa, the Managing Director of LCC, while addressing the Judicial Panel of Inquiry set up by the Lagos State Government to probe the Lekki shootings, noted that lights went off around 4:30pm and that their staffs were not available to put it on at 7:30pm, time the lights come on regularly.

He added that the staff in charge of the generators also left because they didn’t want to provoke #EndSARS protesters

“None of LCC staff physically witnessed the #LekkiMassacre.”
“We can only rely on the footage. This is because ‘they didn’t want to provoke #EndSARS protesters. We usually put the lights on at about 7:30”.
“Our people left the location at 4pm. Everyone was asked to go. “When the curfew was declared, we obtained permission, and asked all staff to go, including those in charge of the generator.”
“The UPS did come on after IPP went off,” LCC MD said.

Omomuwa stated that LCC did not receive any directives from any authority to switch off power or remove cameras.
