Super Eagles Defender Omeruo Revealed Why His EPL Move Failed

Super Eagles defender Kenneth Omeruo has revealed that his proposed move to the English Premier League last summer fell through after he was refused a work permit by the English Football Association.

Omeruo who is recuperating from a Grade A hamstring injury he suffered in Leganes 1-0 win over CD Mirandes revealed that he had several offers to join a Premier League team but could not meet up with the requirements despite been a core member of the Nigerian senior national team.

The defender did not reveal the EPL teams that were tracking him at that time.

“I had offers in England last summer,” Omeruo told Brila FM in an interview monitored by Anaedoonline.ng on Sunday.

“I needed to be playing regularly for the Eagles to get that. I have been invited to the team several times but I don’t get to play and also it’s just playing alone now the league you’re coming from and the transfer fee you command also determines that.

The 27-year-old however did not rule out a return to Chelsea.

“I was returning from a loan spell at Leganes when Frank Lampard was appointed coach of Chelsea,” he continued.

“We didn’t speak because about my future because my coach at Leganes then already told me he wanted me at the club and I was happy going to La Liga to play.

“I am happy for the progress that Chelsea have made in the league so far, you never know, I may return there in future. The most important for me is to be consistent playing to the best of my ability.
