Kalu in a post on his Facebook page on Monday, said he was considering buying 35 per cent stake in Arsenal.

“Our success with Enyimba football club between 2000-2007 has continuously increased my passion for football. As the pillar of sports in Africa , I am considering an investment in football and I will buy 35 per cent stake in Arsenal FC.

“Our target is to lift the Champions League and Premier League back to back as we did with Enyimba,” Kalu wrote on Facebook.

Enyeama who was part of the Enyimba team that won the CAF Champions League back-to-back in 2003 and 2004 while Kalu was governor of Abia State however said the Senator should think about making Enyimba a “mega club” that can create job opportunities for Nigerian youths instead of taking his money abroad.

“Why not invest that money in Enyimba and turn it into a mega club.

A club that will bring in a lot of sponsors and create job opportunities for the youth. Nigeria has no mega club side that we can boast of,” Enyeama wrote on Twitter.

Kalu is not the first Nigerian who has shown interest in buying Arsenal which is owned by American businessman Stan Kroenke.

Billionaire Aliko Dangote had since 2011, stated his desire to purchase the London-based club.

“It is a team that, yes, I would like to buy someday, but what I keep saying is we have $20bn worth of projects and that’s what I really want to concentrate on,” Dangote said in a chat with David Rubenstein Show on Bloomberg this January.

“I’m trying to finish building the company and then after we finish, maybe sometime in 2021 we can.

“I’m not buying Arsenal right now; I’m buying Arsenal when I finish all these projects because I’m trying to take the company to the next level.
