It was a good night for Nigerian defender Zaidu Sanusi who opened his Champions League goal account in FC Porto’s 2-0 victory over Olympique Marseille on Wednesday, November 25.

The 23-year-old left-back scored a rebound from close range after his initial effort was blocked by the home team’s goalkeeper in the 39th minute.

While Sergio Oliviera scored the winner for the visitors in the 67th minute through a penalty as they keep tabs with Manchester City who are at the summit of the table.

The Super Eagles left-back put up an impressive man-of-the-match performance as his team edges closer to advancing to the next round of the competition.

He also played all 90 minutes in a game that same him produced his first-ever goal for the Portuguese topflight giants.

A delighted Sanusi said after the match: “We got three important points and congratulations to the whole team. It is a very important goal in my career, my first in the Champions League.”

Meanwhile, Marseille have been dumped out of the competition owing to their failure to win any of their first four Group C encounters so far this campaign.

Both sides were also reduced to 10 men in the end after Marko Grujic and Leonardo Balerdi both saw red cards in the space of three minutes in the second half.
